****Current Exhibit**** Dom Ioele ICE August 20 - November 15, 2008
Meet the Artist reception: Glaze Dom Ioele, a resident of Cranford, New Jersey, enjoys macro nature photography. It was only natural that he began shooting macro still life photos. He also enjoys sculpting, so one evening when it was too cold and too dark to shoot outside, he began playing around with some ice, hot water, food coloring and an all-purpose lighter. The photographs in this exhibit are the results of these experiments. Metallic-Effervescence The images captured have a very abstract look, and have been mistaken for microscopic views of cellular structures, telescopic views of distant planets, and molten glass. Most often, it is assumed that the images are computer-generated, but aside from cropping and an occasional boost of contrast, the images are as they appeared when Ioele first saw them in the viewfinder. One of his Ice photos was published in the June 2008 issue of Popular Photography magazine click here to view a scan of the magazine page along with a detailed description of the process!) Bio-Crystal “My usual subjects are nature, landscapes, seascapes, sports, and music, and I always enjoy shooting them, but for “Ice” I was looking for something different – something unique…I hope you enjoy these photos for their visual appeal, as well as for the strange shapes they contain. Nearly everyone who sees them finds something unintentionally “hidden” among the streaks and swirls.” |
